Clay Varney is a researcher working on the Global Terrorism Database (GTD). A Master of Arts candidate in International Security at University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), Mr. Varney is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Prior to starting at GSIS, Mr. Varney attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. At Vanderbilt he received a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Islamic Studies. Prior to his junior year, Mr. Varney was awarded a National Security Education Program Boren Undergraduate Scholarship to study abroad at the American University in Cairo. While in Cairo, he took courses in Arabic and Middle Eastern politics, and traveled extensively in Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey. Mr. Varney will be interning with The Center for Security Policy in Washington, DC during summer of 2007 and will participate in the GSIS Partnership in DC Program during the fall. He hopes to work in the intelligence community or for a defense contractor.
